In the loving memory of our dear friend, mentor Dr. Alok Chatterjee...
Our history...
As Bangladeshi Hindu diaspora grew in California Bay Area, we started looking for sustainable ways to pass on our rich Bangladeshi Cultural heritage to the new generations. We also wanted to organize a common voice for the benefit of this unique community - to protect our common interests, to support one another at times of need in the US and/or in Bangladesh, to share our common values, to foster friendship, and, overall, to build a strong vibrant community.
In early 2001, 9 or 10 Bangladeshi Hindu friends and families came together to form a community organization, and Bangladesh Puja Committee" was born, a constitution was drafted.
Our membership kept growing. We needed to improve means of communication among our felow members.
In 2005, we revised our constitution, filed for non-profit status under section 501(c)(3) under the name "Bangladesh Puja Committee of Northern California." In 2006, our non-profit status was approved under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
